Several BlackBerry 10 users reached out to me about the end of Whatsapp support on BlackBerry 10 and BBOS devices. Users sent me messages that they can still use the app and chat to other users, even though we believed support should have stopped immediately on 1.1.18. This has not occurred.
After testing with friends in Israel, it seems that the end of WhatsApp support is gradual, and that users have started receiving in-app notifications that they can not make a new call because the operating system support has ended.
According to Whatsapp, the limited support will end in about two weeks when support servers will be shut down and until then users will experience various bugs, but will be able to use the application. Users who delete the application and ask to reinstall will not succeed and attempting to download the application will not be possible.
It seems that WhatsApp users for BlackBerry 10 have up to two weeks of use, after which it will be possible to access existing calls and read their history (the application will still be installed on the device) but not to make new chats.
The application on Android devices of course will continue to work normally, as this change does not touch them.
