TD Bank recently announced via Twitter that their mobile banking app includes an NFC based tap and pay feature for BlackBerry. As a BlackBerry user it’s comforting to see big Canadian banks not only supporting BlackBerry but NFC technology as well. Actually, BlackBerry devices have been equipped with NFC hardware as far back as 2011.
If you’re a TD Bank client with a BlackBerry Bold 9900 and would like to take advantage of this new feature, here’s what you will need to get started:
The 5 things you’ll need to use TD Mobile Payment to make purchases with your payment Card:
An eligible TD payment Card
An eligible mobile device, enabled with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology (contactless)
NFC SIM Card
A plan with a participating cellular carrier/service provider
EasyWeb login credentials and access to the TD Mobile app
I applaud TD for supporting BlackBerry, and especially for supporting the legacy OS. Given that all BB10 devices are equipped with NFC as well, I do hope that TD plans to add mobile payments support for the BB10 suite of devices.
The TD (Canada) for BB10 banking app – without tap to pay – supports all current BB10 devices and can be downloaded here.
TD’s mobile payments information page does indicate that they will make more devices eligible in future. We’ll make sure to keep checking this link for BB10 availability.
