Socratic – App Review

A short while back UTB did a wrote up about an educational app called Photomath. A really cool app which allows you to take pictures of a math problem and it provides you the solution including the steps involved to solve it. While perusing Google Play I happened upon a similar app called Socratic and this bad boy takes it to a whole new level.

Get this, Socratic not only handles Math problems it can also solve Science and Humanities questions too!! This is one app that can truly do it all. Math subjects currently include Algebra, Calculus, Geometry (what did the acorn say when it grew up?), Prealgebra, Precalculus, Statistics, and Trigonometry. Humanities subjects include U.S. History, World History, and English Grammar. But wait, there’s more – Science subjects include Anatomy & Physiology, Astrology (no, not Zodiac predictions), Astrophysics (my fave), Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Organic Chemistry (including the dreaded redox equations!), and Physics. It even includes videos from the likes of Khan Academy, Crash Course, and more. How on earth did they accomplish all this you might ask? For some mysterious reason they entered millions of sample homework questions in order to help the app predict which concepts would apply when solving a particular problem. Not sure how they plan on recouping their monies but maybe they’ve developed an algorithm for that too.

If you’re like me with children in high school and college and fear homework sessions where they ask for help, or are taking college courses on your own, this is truly one must have app.

I would strongly suggest you head over to Google Play and download this prize winning* app here.

Now I won’t be breaking into a cold sweat when asked for help with homework (and no more – go ask mom).
