Rumor Mill Alert! Ontario May Be No More?

It has been brought to attention, that SADLY, project “Ontario” has been canceled.   This product was to be the next “highline flagship” of BB10.  This device was to have such features as :Eight CPU cores, 64-bit archetecture, Clockspeeds of up to 2.5GHz, 1600MHz 4GB RAM LPDDR3 PoP, Adreno 430 500 MHz, Pixel fill Rate 6Gpix/s and OpenGL ES3.0, direct x11.1, OpenCL1.2.

All of this in a single 5 inch all touch handset was looking to be quite promising.  With John Chen stating that he wants to push forward in handheld markets still, that raises one question to all of us here at UTB… What could he possibly have in store to be better?  We do know that since John Chen has taken over, all the seals at Blackberry have been QUITE tight, so something has to be in the works (we all hope).  So, now we wait for the next media presentation and see what Mr. Chen has in his hands… trying to keep out of sight… but not ours ;)

Well that’s gay :( I want a Z50 type device, comon BlackBerry take my money!

To be honest, I really do believe that something is in the works. The Z30 got rave reviews. Did they sell millions and millions; maybe not, but they proved that they can make a great full touch device to pair up with this great OS. I believe that a Z30 successor will be made, and marketed much differently than how the Z30 was.

    Obviously it’s a slider.

      I WISH!!! LOL
now remember.. this is rumor mill at this point. My / Our Hopes is that if this IS true that it is due to something bigger and better ;)

  • Blackjack

Do you have a source for this, or are you starting a rumor?

  • Anthony

This likely isn’t true. BlackBerry needs an all-touch high end device. Many users don’t want a keyboard. I like the keyboard on my Z30.

    • mopar_fxr

Our hopes are that there will still be a high end all touch, but with Mr. Chens love of the “belt” as we have seen… I wish I had a crystal ball T.B.H.

  • mopar_fxr

There is indeed a source, and no, I can not reveal that source at this time. With that said though, it IS still in rumor status until I see an official mark in writing.
Lets just say I am not one to shoot off a gun without some ammo though. Let us just hope we are right that IF it is indeed a truth that it is for a device even better.

    • Blackjack

Chen love the belt but he is not a fool. I am sure he understand also the love of the VKB.
      These rumors can be damaging.

Remember guys, supposed specs leaked, and it’s been some time, and look at the specs of the competition. When Chen unveils the ‘flagship’ all touch, he’s not going to be hearing what we heard about the Z30 when it was released. The all touch hasn’t been scrapped, this project has, and I’m willing to bet we’re going to be really glad when we see what has taken it’s place.

  • Chaplain_Clancy

They leaked a roadmap (which Ironically said that it was strictly confidential) over at another site. It indicated that the Ontario was not on the wall for the current fiscal year. I think that this is all we have to go by at the moment.

  • Blackjack

Generally we have to be careful about titles that people can misinterpret and run off with like a certain other site who implied that BlackBerry was abandoning all touch devices…

  • bbjoe2011

    Awesome post, Mopar!

  • razrrob

I’m OK not getting hung up in the Spec war. Remember OS10 runs so very efficiently it doesn’t really need all the additional specs, unless BlackBerry is going for the NASA market…

  • Omnitech

All I can say is that there are technical underpinnings for a device with a Full HD (1920×1080) device already in the OS now.

So somewhere along the line SOME device is going to have that kind of display.. ;)
