Popular music streaming service Rdio has let every subscriber know that they are to be acquired by Pandora and will kill off current subscriptions upon the users next billing cycle.
Dang it! Just when I was starting to get cozy with the PC and mobile interface too. I was very close to signing up for their entry level subscription rate of $4.99/mo.
Just yesterday I was thinking about diving in to the Rdio service as I listened to it on and off all day. I was comparing it to Spotify and was finding that it was fitting the bill for me. So today I login to the service on my desktop PC and I see an important message indicator.
Thank you for your support of Rdio over the years. You helped make Rdio not only a place to listen and discover, but also a global community of dedicated music lovers. We’ve enjoyed working on Rdio as much as you’ve enjoyed using it. It’s been an honor serving you.
As a result of Pandora’s planned acquisition of Rdio, the Rdio service will be winding down in the coming weeks.
Effective Monday, November 23, if you currently have an Rdio subscription, it will be canceled on your next billing date, and you will no longer be automatically charged. Rest assured that your subscription will remain active for any period of time you’ve already been billed. Also starting November 23, Rdio will no longer take new subscriptions.
Ah well, for those of you enjoying the Rdio service your time is limited now. I wonder if Pandora will use this opportunity to expand into Canada?
App deleted on Priv, along with the Forte.fm app on my Passport.
Off to Spotify? Hmmm…
