Qualcomm introduces Quick Charge 4, promising 5 hours of battery life after 5 minutes of charging.
Qualcomm has introduced their Quick Charge 4 technology. Quick Charge 4 comes with several improvements over Quick Charge 3, and some pretty lofty promises. Among the improvements over Quick Charge 3 are:
- support for both USB Type-C and USB PD
- improvements to battery cycle life and safety
- INOV (Intelligent Negotiation for Optimal Voltage) version 3
- Dual Charge version 3
While the support for USB Type-C is pretty much necessary, it will certainly been seen as a response to Google’s recommendation to stop supporting proprietary charging technologies.
The company claims Quick Charge 4 will be able to provide 5 hours of battery life after only 5 minutes of charging. However, they don’t specify what they mean when they say “battery life”. Are they talking about 5 hours of average mixed usage, or just 5 hours of standby ? If they’re talking about mixed usage, then that would certainly be impressive.
They expect Quick Charge 4 to commercially available in the first half of 2017.
