Ok… never mind the Pirate references.
Just thought we’d let everyone know about a nasty situation over at Avast Anivirus. According to Wayne Williams over at betanews Avast had its forum hacked by some unknown nefarious people. Apparently, they gained enough info to make Avast move their forums to a completely different platform all together.
As Wayne Williams puts it:
“Avast says “user nicknames, user names, email addresses and hashed (one-way encrypted) passwords were compromised” and while it stresses less than 0.2 percent of users were affected, that still equates to details of around 400,000 people.”
He goes on to suggest that those encrypted passwords may not be a safe as one might think…
“Avast also admits that while the “passwords were hashed, it could be possible for a sophisticated thief to derive many of the passwords” and recommends that if you use the same login details on other sites, you change them immediately.”
Why am I talking about this you may ask?
Because… Some of our readers use other platforms (Android), and some of those users have installed Avast Antivirus on their phones and/or tablets (something that is quite unnecessary on a BlackBerry by the way). And those people should know that some of their information has been absconded with (again) if they were/are a member of that forum.
So… get on over there and change your password pronto!
Or… Hmmm… How about just deleting your account there, sell your Android and buy a BlackBerry?
Then you can quit worrying about this crap!
