A big update and launch to a popular game today, and PS4 servers are down.
Fortnite is one of the top battle royale games, and today Epic Games released a Season 5 update to the title. Whether what happened next is a an example of cause and effect or just a coincidence remains to be seen. However, PS4 servers were down and are still experience connection issues this evening.
Sony stated that affected areas are the Gaming and Social servers. Sony explains, “You may have some difficulty launching games, applications, or online features.” They have no clear time when the issues will be resolved.
Game developers have reported issues on more than just Fortnight. Destiny 2 players have also had problems with the game.
The issues may not all be coming from Sony. Epic let players know that there were reports of problems involving the voice chat and joining parties. Sounds like there’s still a few kinks in Season 5.
Any Massively Multiplayer Online game faces these issues from time to time. Whenever a server is taxed with high traffic, there are going to be hiccups. These run high especially on launch days, as gamers dust off their controllers to try out new area/features/etc. Fortnite’s Season 5 offers new skins, locations to explore, and the ability to drive certain vehicles in game.
