Optus the Last Carrier Standing as Telstra and Vodafone pass on the Priv

As reported last week in our article about the Australian hands on event with BlackBerry and their newest Smartphone the Priv, Australian Carrier Optus have confirmed to PC World Australia that they will be stocking the Priv when it is available.

In an update to that article, PC World have revealed that Telstra and Vodafone the other major carriers in Australia have decided to pass on the Priv.  While this is not surprising from Vodafone who have not openly stocked a BlackBerry device since the Z10, it is somewhat surprising of Telstra who have stocked the Z10, Q10, Z30 and Classic in recent years.  Telstra did however pass on the Passport which saw many BB10 users switch carriers in order to get their hands on this device.  Is Telstra playing the wait and see game?  Only time will tell.

For those Australian’s who are coming up to contract time and want the Priv, it’s time to give Optus a call and ask them about a release date.  You may also want to hit up the forums and look for the BlackBerry Priv thread here.  Keep letting management know that you want this device.  If you want Priv to come to your carrier, keep pushing the management.  Perhaps they will change their minds.
