Newegg Breached by Same Group Who Hacked British Airways

Who can stop them? Newegg was hacked by Magecart.

After we reported that Feedify was also hacked by a dangerous hacker group known as the Magecart group, Newegg has also found itself victim. The Magecart group was also responsible for the hacking of Ticketmaster and  British Airways. It seems that all of these attacks utilized the same code.

The attack took place between August 14 and September 18 of this year. The hackers managed to steal customers’ credit card information just as they managed to do in previous attacks. According to security researchers from RiskIQ and Volexity, the group is attacking by planting malicious code on the checkout page of the company’s websites, thus obtaining the valuable credit card information. With the wide range of companies which the group has attacked, it is obvious that they are not focusing on any certain industry. It seems any online commerce agency could be at risk from this attack which is little more than a few lines of JavaScript.

At this time, it is not known how many credit cards were stolen and the advice is that if you used your credit card during the aforementioned timeframe, you should immediately cancel your credit card.
