The New Mutants Trailer, This Is No X-Men

20th Century Fox has released a trailer for the upcoming film The New Mutants

Growing up, I was a comic book geek. Not just any comic books mind you. I was a geek for the X-Men family of Marvel comics. There were so many comics about Marvel’s mutants, and they all interwove with each other, so you couldn’t just read one title.

My favorite book as a kid was The New Mutants. These were the next class of X-Men. Based out of Xavier’s school, these teens had X-Men as teachers. While training in their powers that they never really had control of, these kids weren’t heroes out saving the world, they were kids getting themselves in trouble. That was until comic artist Rob Leifeld took control of the comics. The artist that couldn’t draw wrists, introduced such favorites as Deadpool and Cable, changed the name of the book to X-Force, and completely ruined the book.

I’ve got to admit that I was shocked to hear that there would be a New Mutants movie. I mean, I thought I was the only one that remembered that book? Well, after a quick search, I found that The New Mutants was reintroduced as it’s own title. Not once, but twice!

I decided it was safe to assume this movie would not be based on the comics I remember so fondly. Then I watched the trailer, and am left wondering what in the world I just watched. This trailer does not look like a New Mutant story. It doesn’t look like an X-Men story. Heck, it doesn’t even look like a comic book story. This trailer looks like a straight up horror flick. And it looks great!

The New Mutants hits theaters April 13th, 2018.
