BlackBerry has continued to improve BBM Protected for ios, Android and BlackBerry 10 devices since its launch last year by adding new features. The latest feature to be added, is the “Audit and Archive Service” or BAAS. This new feature allows the IT administrator to enforce additional control by ensuring that enterprise communication can be securely stored in case they need to be retrieved for auditing or for regulatory compliance purposes.
The type of communications that can be archived includes the following:
- 1:1 chats, multi-person chats and BBM Group chats
- Message content
- Message sender and message recipients
- Time and date of when messages were sent
While many are wary of being monitored, for those who are using enterprise issued devices it is a necessity. This is because companies need to have the ability to ensure their employees are using their devices in compliance with corporte policy. It also allows these companies to conform with regulatory compliance standards such as HIPPA, FINRA, SEC, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and the Dodd-Frank Act.
It is because of features like these that makes BBM a highly secured and trusted messaging and communications platform within organizations. By adding improvements such as BAAS to BBM Protect, BlackBerry is demonstrating a commitment to providing valuable services for its enterprise customers
