During yesterday’s Blogcast special guest Schlomi showed off his beautiful new BlackBerry Motion. This is a beautiful looking full touch screen device that will soon be widely available.
One of the features of the Motion was that there were some new apps that were installed that aren’t currently available for KEYONE, as yet. Some of the new apps are BlackBerry Gallery, BlackBerry Weather and one we’ve all been asking for, BlackBerry Files.
I have tried numerous photo gallery apps and had settled on using an app called Piktures, available in the Google Play store. However it didn’t have any editing features apart from Crop. So when I saw the BlackBerry Gallery app I just couldn’t wait to try it.
The main screen has two tabs, Moments and Albums. Moments gives you pictures by date taken and Albums is self explanatory, all your albums listed. In the Moments tab you can set views as Day view, Collage view and Month view. You can also select Slideshow. In Albums tab you can sort albums by number of items, last updated time or by album name.
The editing features are very good with the choice of different effects, frames, crop, straighten, rotate, mirror and even the ability to draw on pictures with any color you choose. So far I’m very happy with this app for my pictures gallery.
This app is what a lot of people were asking for on BlackBerry Android devices, myself included. It’s a pretty simplistic app, we’ll laid out and easy to use. However, one feature that it’s lacking that we had on BB10 File Manager is remote access to your desktop or laptop computer. If they can somehow add this feature in an upcoming update, it would be the perfect file manager app for me.
The BlackBerry Weather app is pretty basic but informative . Forecast information is provided by AccuWeather. A clean UI but so far lacking in features that other weather apps have that are currently available.
Want to try these apps?
If you want to give these apps a try, you can find them on apkmirror.com but do so at your own risk. All three have been tested on KEYone and Priv, and work very well. While you are there, you may notice a couple of other BlackBerry apps such as Radio and BlackBerry Sound Recorder. But both of these apps were reportedly tested but not working on KEYone and Priv.
You will need to allow installing apps from unknown sources in your settings under Security, then Unknown sources.
Let us know what you think of these apps in the comments below. One other app/feature that is on the BlackBerry Motion but not yet on the KEyone is the BlackBerry Locker for storing private pics away from prying eyes. Hopefully this will be added to KEYone and possibly other devices in the very near future. What other apps would you like to see from BlackBerry ?
