Microsoft has decided to shut down it’s London Skype office, making nearly 400 employees redundant.
Microsoft acquired Skype in$8.5 billion. Since then, Skype was largely left independent, with most decisions being made in Europe. According to an unnamed former employee, this posed a bit of a problem for the US based Microsoft.
Microsoft has announced that in an effort to “unify some engineering positions” the London office was made redundant, and will be shut down. This move will see nearly 400 London employees left without jobs.
Microsoft has stated that they will be entering in to a consultation process and offer these affected employees new opportunities “where possible”.
