Marine Assistant available in Beta Zone

Mariners rejoice!

A new AIS tracking app just hit the BlackBerry Beta Zone…

Tracking for boats, liners, and ships of all types.

AIS (Automatic Identification System) is the method by which vessels and stations locate each other through the exchange of data. My friend uses a similar app to locate tug boats and barges all the time.

Here’s a shot of Vancouver harbour at the time of this writing.

***Update*** I contacted the developer Marco Gallo to find out the development method, as I had thought it might be an Android port. Marco got back to me straight away and tells me it is native and done in Webworks. It does function very well enough albeit in landscape mode only on this current beta release. Thanks ital1 for making me think to contact Marco!

If you’re into boating you may find this app handy, so get on over to the Beta Zone and grab Marine Assistant right away!
