Man Injured by Shards of Glass from Exploding iPhone

Semi-Pro dart player can’t play until his injured hand heals.

Lee Hayes had owned his iPhone 7 for just three days when he was injured as it exploded. “It was on the bench in the kitchen and I heard it ringing. As soon as I touched the screen to answer it the phone just exploded.” he states, “There was a loud bang and a sizzling noise and the force of the blast shattered the screen.” The iPhone exploded with enough force that tiny shards of glass were embedded in his hand. “My girlfriend’s two-year-old son was in the house so it could have just as easily been him.”

Hayes is a semi-pro darts player in his homeland of Southport, Merseyside in the UK. With his injured hand he is having to take time off from his game to allow his hand to heal.

Hayes had purchased the phone from O2, who replaced the phone for him. Apple has made no comment.
