By now, you all have heard about the deal Intel did with Mobileye. The tech giant bought the autonomous technology company for around $15.5 Billion. It’s not every day we see that kind of deal happen. Now I’m not going to talk about the deal itself, but which company can be the winner of this deal.
When companies like Intel buy other companies, no matter in what industry that company may work, it automatically puts this industry in the spotlight. So, when Intel bought Mobileye they intentionally brought the spotlight to the next most important industry.
Mobileye are basically providing warnings for collision prevention and mitigation, so now that they are the biggest in the automotive industry, everyone will start to look for the next big company that can be bought or the one that going to fill another piece of the autonomous cake.
QNX is a veteran player, more then Mobileye. The BlackBerry subsidiary is already proven in the field and embedded in more the 60 Million cars and just recently they signed contract with Ford.
QNX bringing something that no other company brought yet: security.
While with Mobileye you will not die by accident, with QNX hackers will not hijack your car. QNX is completing the puzzle of autonomous car, Security and safety on the road. I don’t think that BlackBerry should sell QNX cause it’s the core of their businesses, but they need to leverage it to make QNX the indisputable leader of their industry.
We will not see it immediately on the stock price, but by next year, and the closer we get to a commercial, autonomous car, the stock will have to rise up.
If QNX will take the place we all want them to take, BlackBerry and QNX will be worth much more then the $15.5 Billion that Intel paid for Mobileye. With QNX leading in the automotive industry, BlackBerry Secure have more chances to be the security standard for every IoT device.
