Yesterday Google kicked off a 2-day developer party discussing their plans for the future, and my what plans they have!

    Smart Homes via Nest

-I can wait until my thermostat, washing machine, lights, and refrigerator are run by the latest version of android – Lollipop. Kit Kat has been out for over 6 months and uptake has been an astounding 10% of North American users. So why not upgrade to something else people won’t use. Personally I’m looking forward to all the horror stories about appliances doing crazy things as they are infected by the malware which seems to be rampant in Google Play.

    Car infotainment systems

-They could have simplified things tremendously by saying your music, navigation, and android phone apps are simply layered over the BlackBerry/QNX kernel. The same one that runs nuclear submarines, power stations, and the like.

-As if the horrific idea of Google Glass wasn’t enough, now we can adorn other body parts with useless electronics. Now you can look forward to relying on the small real estate of a watch to view meeting details such as room numbers, dial-in info etc, read emails, browse the web, scroll through your music list? Seriously?

    Android- security via Knox

-Just #2 comments here-
1) The Knox Enterprise Mobility Management platform is designed for Samsung only, not other android manufacturers. Also will not work cross platform so iPhone, Windows Phones, and Blackberry are out- so much for BYOD!
2) Android One phone- a low entry phone designed by Mountain View with outsourced manufacturing, yawn….

I guess it should come as no surprise that Google pulled an Apple and decided to copy portions of OS10 with its’ Hub.

Finally, let’s not lose sight of the BIG PICTURE – Google is not a watch company, it is not a phone company, nor is it a Smart Home company. Google earns its’ BILLIONS by insuating itself into your life so it can collect data, analyze that data, package it and sell it to others.

BlackBerry does not
