We are not born equal. We must be made equal by the fire… and then we can be happy.
The novel Fahrenheit 451 was published in 1953. Author Ray Bradbury foretold of a future where books, and the ideas they held, were burned. It was a story of censorship. Words were burned, and oppositional thoughts were censored. At the time, Bradbury said that he wrote the novel because of his concerns of McCarthyism. It was a time in which people were being accused of being members of the Communist Party. Accusations of treason were being thrown about with little to no evidence, and lives were destroyed. What an apt time to revisit the story.
Unfortunately, I have a feeling that the underlying truth behind the story will be forgotten. Instead, it looks like we will be seeing another futuristic action movie.
The movie stars Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther) who gets to play the hero this time. Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water) joins him, and plays his typical villainous role.
The futuristic landscape looks amazing. There’s no doubt that these two leads can act. Let’s just hope the actual story is what is told in this version of Bradbury’s classic tale.
