Google Consolidates Payment Platforms

Say hello to Google Pay.

Google currently offers a few different ways to spend money. Android Pay, which allows for payments at brick and mortar stores using your Android device’s NFC. There is also Google Wallet, which allows users to send money to friends. Both of these services are now being merged into a new brand called simply Google Pay.

It’s honestly a bit of a surprise it’s taken Google so long to do this. As other brands started with one service, and slowly added the other type of service to it, Google has had both services operating independently for some time. It only makes sense to combine them all in to one.

The Google Pay system is already available in some third party services such as Fandango, and I assume we will be seeing a unified app, or rebranding of the Android Pay app, from Google sometime in the near future.
