I've read about that, putting Android out of business is not the intention, basically they are working on a new OS.
More like developing a newer OS that will replace Android. Doubt that we will see anything right away.

No its not their intentions but people are thinking it will put android out of business. I'd be willing to bet it won't hurt android. Sent from my BlackBerry Q10 using Tapatalk

Others, including BlackBerry, have worked on an OS to put others out of business and we have seen where that has gotten them.
It seems strange that Google is working on an OS to put themselves out of business? Aren't they the originators of Android? If so, like DL says, they are working on something to replace it or a different. More secure(?) Version of it. Sent from my STV100-1 using Tapatalk

Its also possible they're trying to find a way to create a new revenue stream by owning an OS that they license... but it seems obvious that they would want it to work with the play store and all those apps...
