non standard charger drained my battery.

I use a PlayBook charger for a fast charge sometimes.

I don't know if what you're saying is correct about the individual devices (I suppose it is), but I do know that charging speed is not merely a function of the output of the charging device, it's also a function of the battery and possibly the phone and/or OS. It's true that some devices can accept a faster charge than others.

I have a charger that puts out like 3amps (PlayBook charger is 1.8) and has an IQ technology that will automatically adjust the output based on the device it's charging so it's always charging at the maximum rate. It's really fast.
