Location, location, location.
A few years ago, BBM users were treated with something surprisingly novel. Embedded in the iconic chat function is a mapping service, Glympse, that allows users to share their location in real time with a chat contact.
Now, Facebook Messenger has decided to hop on board and broadcast location information through it’s third party application. Users can now share their real time data through “Live Location.” Location information can be shared for up to 60 minutes, and allows your chat group to track your whereabouts.
Sounds similiar, doesn’t it? The difference between Facebook Messenger’s Live Location and BBM’s Glympse is that BlackBerry is a trusted source of secured communications. Facebook Messenger has a history of storing your location data. With it’s parallel history of hacks and security breaches, is it really safe or secure to bring down another wall around your privacy?
