If you reside in the US you’ll be a bit ticked off at the lack of availability of the Passport with AT&T the only carrier to back it (I use the term loosely) and dragging their feet at that.
Unfortunately, here in the UK, our carriers have the same ‘oh but BlackBerry are dead’ disease and not one of the big 4 is offering the Passport (Vodafone are going to sell it to ‘business only’ ) which shows just how far out of the loop they really are.
Good news for Carphone Warehouse though. They sell the Passport through their stores and online (and, coincidentally, it’s where I’ve ordered mine from) and, like everywhere else, it sold out virtually immediately with no more expected until 20th October (which, coincidentally, is when I can expect mine!)
There were, of course, a few lucky people who got their hands on one and they’ve left a clutch of reviews on the CPW site.
I think it’s safe to say that, to a man (or woman), they’ve fallen in love. Here’s a flavour:
OMG! BlackBerry really pulled one out of the bag with this!
Battery is phenomenal, it comes with software called Blend that allows sending SMS messages, Emails etc through a tablet, laptop or PC.
The keyboard is really great and the speaker on the phone are loud very loud. spotify looks and works well.
The screen on this phone is simply amazing, it’s very clear and makes it easier for reading emails and documents.
After 3 days, I am now used to the spatial arrangement of the key board, the virtual rows are so intuitive, and the screen just creates an intense viewing experience. Battery lasted 10 hours of watching back to back episodes on netflix, and it lasted 14 hours with spotify playing off mobile data non stop. It also fits perfectly in my pocket.
Bought this last week and after a few days with it I can’t put it down, the screen is simply mesmerizing. It takes 1-2 days to adapt to the new touch enabled physical keyboard, but once you learn all its features you won’t want to go back to a traditional phone.
It’s the best phone I’ve ever had. The screen is very crisp, the Blend software is great and the battery seems to last forever! It feels very strong (no bending in your pocket), the keyboard is very sensitive and smart, and just great!!!
This phone is brilliant, the software is amazing! It is intuitive, smooth, fast and innovative. The keyboard is just amazing, take a bit to get used to but it is so useful. Scrolling up and down on the keypad is something new, but always amazes me everytime! The call quality, is like HD/bluray quality ranging on the next level experience. And the battery, using email, text, music, maps, twitter, facebook, instagram, web browsing, phone calls and various other social apps. The battery lasted me nearly 2 full days without a charge needed! Astounding.
What a great device for reading and authoring content. Very long battery life, crisp display, great feel and 10.3 is awesome. Lots of apps now too with Amazon and with the 10.3 update, almost everything runs. I have gone from being a data consumer to a data author when on the go again which is why I wanted to go back to a physical KB after living on a full touch screen device for the past few years.
I was interested in getting a new BB Passport from when I first heard about it a few months ago. So far (I’ve not had it long) it seems to have been worth the wait.
Very fast productive and innovative! Very happy with the purchase a pleasure browsing, reading and viewing documents. Also more apps with Amazon appstore
Carphone Warehouse ask customers to break down their reviews into Ease of Use, Battery Life, Features and Reliability and give a mark out of 5 stars for each section which then gives an overall mark.
Every single section of every single review gives the Passport 5 stars with no exception. which is pretty much unheard of.
I’m waiting impatiently for my Passport and I’ll be sure to add my review too.
And I hope EE, O2, Three and Vodafone sit back and watch Carphone Warehouse make a ton of money.
Money that they could have had.
They deserve nothing less.
