BlackBerry in Talks to License Secure OS

Word surfaced today that BlackBerry is in contract negotiations with their licensees to further license their BlackBerry Secure OS. This augmented Android platform comes fortified with BlackBerry’s branded security.

SVP Alex Thurber stated they are in talks now on several contracts that will expand their OS licenses.

BlackBerry’s current partners include Optiemus (India), BB Merah Putih (Indonesia), and TCL (Worldwide). Utilizing these current partnerships, BlackBerry may license out their secure operating system to be loaded onto the partners’ brands of smartphones.

Thurber also teased that they are looking into the medical and television fields. This follows BlackBerry’s growth trend in IoT and EoT for next generation mobility and security. Also, TCL already has a substantial market share in television, so this is a natural transition for the licensee.
