BlackBerry Mobile Gives Statement About KEYone Screen Test

BlackBerry Mobile responds to JerryRigEverything KEYone test.

A few days ago, popular YouTube channel JerryRigEverything did a stress test video on the BlackBerry KEYone. By all accounts, it was a very good showing for the device. Right up until the screen popped off. Now, by now we’ve all discussed this video, I even wrote my thoughts about it, and we discussed it in last night’s UTB Blogcast. Now it appears that BlackBerry Mobile have made their own statement concerning the video.

CrackBerry reports that they have received the following statement from BlackBerry Mobile,

“TCL Communication has a long-standing track record of delivering high-quality devices to our customers around the world, and the BlackBerry KEYone is no different. To ensure the highest quality in the BlackBerry KEYone, we used strong, durable premium materials and conducted rigorous stress tests on the device throughout the product development cycle to meet the real life use standards our customers demand. While the BlackBerry KEYone is being met with great enthusiasm, we are aware of the concerns around potential display separation on the device. Out of the thousands of BlackBerry KEYone smartphones that have been shipped and sold globally, only a very small handful of customers have reported this kind of issue.

Our teams are actively examining additional adhesive measures that might further strengthen and eliminate any possibility of display separation occurring. If a customer does experience this however, they’re encouraged to contact us for a device warranty replacement.”

Now, I think we can all agree the JerryRigEverything video was far from real life use, unless the user has some fairly severe anger management issues. Personally, I still think that sort of bend test is unfair when dealing with a physical keyboard phone where the screen ends at the bend pressure point. But it’s great to see that BlackBerry Mobile is taking a look at the issue. User’s that may experience the issue, and yes, we know there have been a couple, can contact BlackBerry Mobile for a warranty replacement. The rest of us, can rest assured that BlackBerry Mobile is working to correct any possible issues. In a time when many phone makers still ignore issues, it’s very nice to see that we can expect the same attention to our BlackBerry branded phones, even if it’s a different group manufacturing them.
