At the Passport live launch last week John Chen introduced Wayne Gretzky to give his opinion on the BlackBerry Passport who, I understand, is a pretty big deal in North America.
Unfortunately, being British, I’d never heard of him. Ice hockey is a minority sport here but I can understand why people were thrilled in Canada, particularly to have a sporting hero come #BackToBlack.
In that vein it was great to see famous English cricketer Kevin Pietersen post on Instagram that he too was coming #BackToBlack with his new BlackBerry Passport.
For those that don’t know this is rather a big deal in BlackBerry’s target markets. Kevin is extremely well known in Britain, obviously, but also the West Indies, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and, crucially, India where he played for a while and where cricketers are akin to Gods!
Kevin’s Passport photo was published to 83,000 Instagram followers so it’s more great publicity, parrticularly over here where we still battle the disturbed misconceptions of the iGnorant daily. Indeed one of the fist comments on yhe pic that I saw was ‘Congratulations, you’ve just gone back 10 years.’
This was, of course, uttered by someone typing from 2012.
Anyway, congrats KP, you’ll love your new Passport (particularly as it will replace your iPhone) and we can chalk up another win for #BackToBlack!
Oh, and if you want to congratulate KP his Instagram username is KP24. I have!
