Android O release date coming soon and upcoming beta features

Google has confirmed that Google branded phones will be the first ones to get the newest Android OS “O” in 2017. Don’t have a Google phone? Then a project to bring Android O to many more devices that previous operating system updates will by launched. The program is called Project Treble and it will speed up the time for your phone to be updated to Android O.

The Google phone release date may be within the next week since the final Developer API’s have been released.

How does this affect us, the loyal BlackBerry user you ask? Well it will ensure that we have the ability with our BlackBerry Android devices to get the newest OS once they figure out the logistics.

Here is a quick list of what is available in the Beta program:

  • Picture in Picture (PiP) mode
  • Faster boot times
  • Restricted background activities
  • Notifications
  • Contextual press-to-hold options
  • Adaptive app icons
  • Boosted audio performance
  • Notification dots
  • New emoji

This is a good list of new items to add on top of Nougat. Now all I have to say, give all of our BlackDroids Nougat now or atleast bump us to O as soon as possible.

Here is the full article and explanation of each of the new items.
