2 hours on a Sunday morning

Coffee

He woke suddenly to the persistence of nature’s call. The fog cleared quickly. A sure sign he got more sleep than usual. Sunshine through the heavy curtains. He isn’t used to that. Grabbed his Passport and checked the time in the few steps to the water closet. 6:25, late for him. Pressure relieved he headed to the kitchen and much desired coffee. The dog joined him near the back door with his own need to answer nature’s call. “Sorry boy, you have to hold it a bit longer”. KCUP in the carrier and water in the tank. Push the button and open UTB Blogs app while the machine produces a caffeine stream.

His majesty the K9 king is not permitted out until 7:00. As he does ‘what dog do’ with his energetic bark box. But this morning is beautiful so the man will enjoy his coffee on the patio. “Come on boy, out we go.” Light the tiki lanterns to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Open Audible on the Passport and continue on with The Train in Spain, chapter 8…

Yesterday he installed–on his Passport–Play Store along with the very latest Cobalt Android tools. They are much improved. Did a check on Android app updates in Play Store and, thankfully, there is an Audible update. The version installed is absolutely terrible. Fingers crossed he updated Audible along with 2 other apps. That was yesterday. This morning he is trying out the new Audible. Great news, it is working very well.

Watch the sun rising in the east.

He wonders what the sun’s angle off due east is. Open Compass, aim the phone and, 77 degrees at 07:26. Pause Audible. BlackBerry Assistant: “when is the longest day of 2015 at Washington DC?” Summer Solstice is June 21, 2015 according to partyearth.com. He puts June 21 in the Calendar as a reminder. Wonder what the angle of the sun is above the horizon. Open BlackBerry World. Search for sextant app. Hmmm none. A few in Amazon App Store and Play Store but not worth installing an Android app for this. How about a protractor. Yep, thanks to Kevin Cheung. “I’ll give you $0.99 for your handy little app” says the man to no one. The dog raises his ears. Using a protractor as a sextant is at best crude but he’ll call that angle 36 degrees at 7:49. BlackBerry Assistant: “How many hours of sunlight on Jun 21, 2015 in Washington DC?” 14:53:54 according to timeanddate.com. Almost 15 hours of daylight. In his younger days he might have done a double century on Sunday June 21. The Train In Spain continues…

He enjoys the book and cool morning for another hour. Even at 08:30 the still air, heat, humidity and mosquitoes have driven the man inside. He BBMs his friend in London to chat. Audible continues…

She mentioned it is raining today. The man suggests they come visit DC as this week is expected to be very nice. They continue various conversation treads. That is common with BBM. Friends leave a few treads dangling for weeks and pick right back up as though they never paused. Chapter 8 is done. On to chapter 9…
