12 Years of Productive Messaging with BBM

12 Years ago, on August 1st, 2005,  BlackBerry introduced the world (or at least to BlackBerry Users) BBM, a messaging platform for BlackBerry handset customers, with ability to send messages between devices and not through the classic SMS technology.

Gary Klassen is the person that millions of users should be thankful to, as he was the one that created BBM, and helped to evolve BBM  for BB10. Today we all know BBM as Android focused with iOS and WP version, but we all fell in love with the Version 5 of BBM.

If you are a BBM user and you don’t remember this screen, you definitely missed some good times. With BBM 5.0 users were able to add friends with QR code, advance tech for those times. As BlackBerry OS was getting new features, BBM was also getting new features .

BBM is also the first to show users if their messages were sent and read, with the famous “R” and “D” that every app now wants to copy.

With BBM 6.0 a new UI was introduced and the chats received some colors, and one of my favorite features was the BBM connected apps. You all remember that we were able to play Chess and more games against other BBM users. Now (BBM for android) we have Games, but we all remember where it started.

BBM also received Audio calling and later Video calling with BBM7 and the much anticipated BBM10 for BlackBerry 10.

With time we got more and more new features and updates that made our beloved messaging platform even better. BlackBerry 10 BBM version showed some security features and customized PIN ability.

With BBM I am still faster and more productive, and after years of using more than one messaging platform I found out that I only need BBM to communicatí. When it comes to Enterprise BBM, it is the most reliable platform for UEM users who want to message in the most secure way.

4 years ago, BlackBerry made BBM cross platform, 2 years after they thought about this idea, and today the app has been downloaded more than 100 Million times.

We can all speak about what we love on BBM, and what is missing. This is the place for you to comment and share what is your favorite version of BBM (all time) and what is your favorite feature. I know that I missed some landmarks and features on this post, but it’s just because I want to hear from you, so speak out.

Show some love to BBM.
