While browsing through BlackBerry World today I came across a new app by the Alexander Doloz called Translate.
As the name suggests, Translate is a language translation app which is powered by Yandex. It’s a native app written in Cascades with over 90 languages. The user interface is localized to English and Russian languages, and it has automatic language detection. It is very simple to use, type in the text that you want to convert, select the language that you want to convert to and then tap the green “Translate” button. You can switch it back or switch it to another language.
There is a copy function that copies the converted text to clipboard and allows you to paste it anywhere. The Active frame shows last translation, making it easy to view without having to “maximise” the app. You can select text from anywhere, press Share button, press Translate – and the app will be launched with this text.

Being a FREE app it does have some limitations as noted by the developer:
1. This is unofficial app, author has no relation to Yandex.
2. Free version of API is used here, which limits translation to 10 000 000 characters monthly and 1 000 000 characters daily for all users of this app. Thus, to prevent draining of available characters, I set the limit in the app – you can translate no more than 500 characters at once. Hopefully later I’ll find the way to lift that limit.
Overall I found this to be a good app for a quick translation. The user interface is simple, clean and easy to understand.
