BlackBerry Mobile Announces KEYone Release in Canada and US

KEYone Release

Since it took several accolades at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, the BlackBerry KEYone has become one of the most talked about devices of 2017. Fan communities and tech blogs have been buzzing about the sleek, classic look that brings in the nostalgia of classic BlackBerrys while providing the top tier security and specifications that consumers have come to expect.

Today, BlackBerry Mobile has announced the final release date for the BlackBerry KEYone for Canada and the United States. This anticipated device will be available for purchase on May 31.

Canadian carries bringing the KEYone to their customer are Bell, Bell MTS, Rogers, SaskTel, and TELUS Business. The device will be available for a two year plan at a retail price $199 CAD.

President and General Manager of TCL Communications (TCT), Steve Cistulli is thrilled to bring this device to consumers:

The BlackBerry story has such a rich history here in Canada, and we’re proud to be part of the new evolution of BlackBerry smartphones that reimagine how we communicate and stay connected with a device that is so distinctly different.

The United States release follows the same timeline. It will be available on May 31. This release will include both CDMA and GSM variants. While BlackBerry Mobile has confirmed the release date, they are unable to announce carrier information promising more details about US carrier release – including Sprint – as the release date nears.

Pre-orders from select partners will begin on May 18.

Distinctly BlackBerry

The BlackBerry KEYone has several features that are distinctly BlackBerry. The physical keyboard offers users a sleek and tactile experience, and boasts a capacitive functionality allowing for efficient typing with its word prediction and flick selection. The design is modern and built durable. With an aluminum frame and textured rubber back, the KEYone delivers a secure and comfortable grip. It’s 4.5-inch display is Corning ® Gorilla ® Glass 4 for stronger resistance to scratches and impact damage. The 3505mAh battery gives over 26 hours of mixed used, the largest battery ever found in a BlackBerry smartphone. Charging is a breeze with the Qualcomm ® Quick Charge 3.0, allowing users to charge up to 50% in 36 mins. The optimized BlackBerry Boost provides the most efficient charging for when minutes matter.

The camera on the KEYone is equally impressive. The 12MP rear camera shoots clear, high quality photos while the aperture lens gives the color and clarity that will make your photos pop.

Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 with the Qualcomm Adreno 506 GPU. This allows fast LTE speeds and optimized battery efficiency.

Running the BlackBerry KEYone is Android 7.1 Nougat. The Android experience on the KEYone brings familiarity with its host of apps available through Google Play. BlackBerry Hub further improves the flow as it organizes and manages all of your communication in one place. The KEYone is the most secure Android smartphone. The BlackBerry DTEK app gives users an innovative look into how their apps are accessing the device. Couple that with BlackBerry’s trusted hardware securing techniques, and the KEYone is reliably secure.
