How To Change Or Update Your BlackBerry ID Username

The other day Mrs Biggly ran out of room on her memory card (remember those Samsung?? Not you Apple!) so it was time to insert a new, bigger card into her trusty Z10. But she’d also got a new PC a while back that, shock horror, she hadn’t downloaded the new BB10 Desktop Suite to (that’s Link and Blend to me and you).

So, downloaded both to back up her photos (and everything else) and launched Link only to find that she couldn’t remember her username and password for her BlackBerry ID. We worked it out in the end, but by the time we did it said that for security reasons an email had been sent to her.

Ah.

Because the email address in question no longer exists.

Took me a while to find it but we’re now back up and running so, for my benefit in future and yours if you need to change your BlackBerry ID Username, here are the instructions from BlackBerry’s Inside Mobility:

How to change or update your BlackBerry ID Username
(email address)

If you would like to keep your existing BlackBerry ID account and simply change the email address that is associated with the account, use the steps for your specific device below.

Note: Your new username must not already be associated to another BlackBerry ID.

On the BlackBerry 10 smartphone:

Swipe down from the top of the home screen and tap Settings.
Tap BlackBerry ID.
Tap the edit Edit button.
Clear the BlackBerry ID Username field and enter the email address to use as your BlackBerry ID Username.
On all-touch devices, press and hold the space bar to hide the keyboard.
Tap the Submit button.
Read the confirmation message, and tap Continue.
Enter your BlackBerry ID password and tap OK to complete the change.
A message is displayed to confirm the change was successful. Tap OK to return to the BlackBerry ID settings screen.

On the BlackBerry smartphone running BlackBerry 7 to 7.1:

From the home screen, select Options > Device > BlackBerry ID.
Clear the Username field and enter the email address to use as your BlackBerry ID Username.
Press the Menu key and select Save.
Enter your BlackBerry ID password and select OK to complete the change.
A message is displayed to confirm the change was successful.

On the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet:

Swipe down from the top bezel or tap the Settings icon.
Tap BlackBerry ID.
Tap the BlackBerry ID Information pencil icon.
Clear the BlackBerry ID Username field and enter the email address to use as your BlackBerry ID Username.
Tap Submit.
Enter your BlackBerry ID password when prompted and tap OK.
A message is displayed to confirm the change was successful.

On the Android device, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Windows Phone:

Open BBM.
Tap the More button (3 dots).
Tap Settings. If using a Windows Phone, also tap General.
Tap the BlackBerry ID email address.
Enter the BlackBerry ID Password and tap Sign In.
Tap Edit Account Information.
Clear the BlackBerry ID Username field and enter the email address to use as your BlackBerry ID Username.
Tap Save.
Scroll to the bottom of the Account Information screen and tap the Done button.
Tap the Back button to exit Settings.

From a web browser on any device or computer:

Visit http://www.blackberry.com/blackberryid.
Under Already have a BlackBerry ID?, click Sign in.
Enter your current username and password, and click Sign In.
Next to Details, click Edit.
Clear the Username field and enter the email address to use as your BlackBerry ID Username, then click Save. A confirmation email is sent to the email address.
Note: If you do not receive the email message, see KB28232.
Open the email from donotreply@blackberry.com with Subject: Confirm your BlackBerry® ID email address. In the message body, click confirm your email address.
On the Confirm your BlackBerry ID screen, enter your BlackBerry ID password and click Submit.
A message is displayed to confirm the change was successful.

confirm your BlackBerry ID here.

Please make sure you do this if you move email accounts or are using an old one, you never know when it will bite you!
