The recent foray into the Android world with the voting on Mobile Madness got me thinking about just how advanced BB10 actually is.
Whilst us here in BlackBerry land have been riding the roller coaster that is our favourite smartphone manufacturer and fighting our own battles, it’s easy to forget what’s been acheived with the BB10 series of phones.
All that was brought crashing home to me with some of the comments Androidians were placing on Mobile Madness. To say they were out of touch would be an understatement.
The arguments they were using in favour of Android as an OS were old and very lame.
‘You’ve no apps’ (er, fixed)
‘We don’t have lag’ (er, yes you do but we’ve never suffered from it anyway)
‘BlackBerry’s are too complicated’ (er, hello? They work out of the box, not 6 months later when you’ve finished customising them!)
‘Well, mine has an Octocore processor thingy and it’s specs are better’.
Well, it’s an interesting argument to have since they clearly don’t understand that it’s not the size of the engine but the amount of power the wheels deliver to the tarmac that’s important.
And in that regard EVERY Android phone falls flat in comparison to BB10, whatever the specs. It’s just ridiculously inefficient and will get worse over time. That’s the way it’s made! In a way I can’t blame them, as they’re so used to having this argument with each other, over and over again but it’s one that just doesn’t stand up in comparison to a DIFFERENT OS.
To give a PC comparison, a computer can have a 100Mb internet connection but if it’s running with 1000 programs piddling around in the background your PC can only go so fast. And the more you add, the slower it gets. We’ve all been there, that old laptop that you replaced last year SHOULD have still been ok on the SPECS. But with the amount of stuff you’ve added to it over time that is doing things in the background it’s crawling along.
Leave it guys.
Stop trying to compare grapes with bananas. It’s all about the user experience.
And in that regard BB10 will, I promise you, flatten any Android device I’m afraid once you have used it.
And here’s THE most basic function of all that you have to use EVERY SINGLE DAY that shows just how old fashioned that thing you hold in your hand really is.
YOU need to press a BIG BUTTON clicky thing to get around.
I swipe to get where ever I want to go.
In comparison mine takes a millisecond whilst you are still clunking away.
How OLD does that seem now?
So guys, take off those Google Glasses…
Stop being blinded by the spec race that they’ve made you feel you need. It’s rubbish.
And come and join us (or rejoin us!) with a modern phone, with a modern OS that is being updated every 3 months or so with NEW features, NEW designs and NEW ideas.
That is truly flexible and conforms to how YOU think, not how they WANT you to think.
Come… and say #iChooseBlackBerry10.
