BBM on iOS… The Devil made me do it…

OK… here’s the story…

I bought my son an iPod 32gb 5th gen for Christmas 2012. I know… Anyway, at the time he was still clinging on to his feature phone, and as “luck” would have it his iPod 4th gen had some serious “Facetime” with the clothes washer. Yeah… every product has a cycle, and this one went through all the cycles including spin. Alas… all the rice and cajoling was to no avail.

So enter the iPod 5th… My son used it for 8 months until getting his Z10 to replace the aging Samsung (what a smart guy). As soon as he got his music on the BlackBerry the iPod went into a drawer never to be charged again… until this past Sunday… that’s when my light bulb went on (rare I know). I asked him if I could “experiment” with it, and he said “go for it”. So… I charged it up from dead, set it up and upgraded to iOS 7.1. After that, the first app I installed was BBM (but of course). Today, I upgraded the iOS BBM app to the latest with stickers. So… here it is…

The installation screen…

Now we can see the “shop” in addition to the recent voice calling and channels features…

Here we see the sticker packs that are available across all platforms…

And here is the freebee BlackBerry is giving away to all for a limited time…

Finally… Here’s my alter ego sending and receiving stickers with my Z30 that got the BBM update earlier (man I love that phone)…

Here we are… proof in the pudding. BlackBerry is leveling the playfield by starting to release BBM features across all platforms simultaneously. I must say that the version of BBM I was running on the iPod was a bit rough around the edges. This version is smoother indeed. The iPod only has 512mb of ram. This quite probably runs better on an iPhone 5 with 1gb.

That being said, I’ve had enough Home button mashing for one day… Come on in and discuss in the forums, put your feet up and stay a while…
