Another Possible Apple Hack Occurring Now!

Sorry BlackBerry fans, it looks like even more iPhone news is hitting good ol’ UTB blogs. Now, don’t get the idea that we are straying from BlackBerry of course, because we are not. But there is just so much Apple news out there right now. And as a BlackBerry fan, I could care less if Tim Cook is making up for deficiencies he may feel he has compared to Steve Jobs by building a bigger iPhone, but when what may just be the second major iPhone hack may be occurring in as many weeks, I think BlackBerry fans might want to know. Earlier today Grim alerted me to this:

i was using my ipad a short while ago when suddenly it locked itself, and was askiwhich I’d never previously set up. I went to check my phone and there was a message on the screen (it’s still there) saying that my device(s) had been hacked by ‘Oleg Pliss’ and he/she/they demanded $100 USD/EUR (sent by paypal to lock404@hotmail.com to return them to me.
I have no idea how this has happened. I am not aware of having been exposed to malware or anything else, although i did recently purchase some new apps – perhaps one of these has something to do with it? I don’t know. I am not sure what avenue has been used to reach my devices – I’m about to use my husband’s laptop to check through some of my accounts (gmail, etc) and see if there is any clue there.
Has this happened to anyone else? What can or should I do? Many thanks

This is the original message taken from Apple Support Communities. This post is followed by 11 pages and upwards of 20 separate people with the same issue. It seems most, but not all, are from Australia.

Also, Ital1 sent me a link to Romeo Miller’s Instagram account. There is something terribly wrong with his iPhone!

romeomiller WTF! This will be reported and the police will find you! There is no more privacy in this damn generation! As I was locked out of my phone for 5 whole mins, I could see this person access my pics, my documents, and a lot of my celeb friends. If you wanna see my junk just ask. Geesh! Lol but seriously… This is FUCKED up and will be handled! No telling what info this creep has STOLEN! #BullShit #Hackers #BustHisAss

Something to note, is that you don’t need Instagram on your phone to watch this, it should pop right up in your BB10 browser and play perfect.  It’s been so long since I tried Instagram, I didn’t know it worked so well. I was proud of myself for remembering my old login so I could leave a message that he should buy a BlackBerry.

These two hacks seem to be unrelated to each other, and what is actually happening? I don’t know yet. But we will be watching. Mainstream media seems to ignore the flaws in iPhone. We seek to expose them. And hope that you will join us in sharing these issues. Let’s help save our friends from having their personal info hacked because they chose a substandard phone. Let’s be sure to let them know which phone platform will keep them safe.

Tell us what you think or share any other similar stories in the forums.

freakin scary! for those that didn’t think it was important to buy a BlackBerry

Sad thing about all of this is how Apple has corporate America suckered in to Using their products. This is going to back fire on somebody…unless of course they use BES at the very least.

In my humble opinion, we are witnessing the tip of a rather large iceberg.
The genpop has been lulled into a seriously FALSE sense of security. This is the beginning of a rather significant change in tide methinks.

Why oh why don’t other people pick up on this? Why doesn’t the press have a field day with this? How many time does Apple need to be hacked before the world sees? Ebay was in the news about it last week and they don’t hold anywhere near the information that an iPhone or iCloud does or could!

  • shanerredflag

Retina display says “you been hacked” lol. I hope BlackBerry exploits this…”Your iPhone hacked? BlackBerry wants you back” type of thing.

His neighbours are shocked. “Oleg was such a nice boy” locco_smiley_39

      Bwahahaha!!!

  • I would have immediately opened my phone and popped out the battery or SIM card; wait, they can’t do that. Oh well.

But seriously, this is a really nightmarish kind of thing for me. I agree with Canuck above; there is a sea change happening and security/privacy is becoming more en vogue. It may not be THE primary deciding factor on platform choice for the mainstream, but it can certainly influence a decision when the “wants” are basically equal. I think BB has those bases covered now (on the “wants”) and just needs to market better when the cash is there.
